Be sure to avoid this #1 mistake that companies make when organizing training (and what to do instead)
Too often I see companies waiting for the perfect time to gather as many individuals as possible, on the least disruptive date, to make a training “worth” their budget.
But this forces professionals who need training most to struggle until the training is available and puts them in a session environment with other participants who may be too new to the situation to add effective input.
Plus, it forces trainers to design broad training content to serve a variety of needs, diluting the objectives they could help key talent perform at their peak.
Effective training isn’t just about maximizing your budget…it’s about RELEVANCE and TIMING to get talent up to speed so they can start impacting your bottom line
According to Harvard Business Review, there is a 50% chance that leaders will leave the company within 18 months, one of the primary reasons as a lack of transitional support. (source)
Not only that, but in our experience, the average time an expat is in Japan before they reach out to Thrive Tokyo for support is around 3 years.
What’s happening before a person reaches out for support? It’s usually a flow from feeling hopeful and optimistic in a new challenge, to trying to resolve problems on their own without the proper tools, to experiencing deep resentment and questioning their career, and then finally - as a last resort - to reach out for support because maybe, just maybe, there is something they can learn.
Being able to equip people with what they need before they run into problems isn’t just setting them up for success, it’s setting your business up for success.
Hi, I’m Katheryn, CEO of Thrive Tokyo,
Professional Certified Coach,
plus your training ally…here’s why:
Since 2016 I’ve helped thousands of professionals through training, coaching, and community to confidently navigate life-changing career transitions - whether it’s stepping into new leadership roles and/or living and working in Japan for the first time and adjusting to the cultural challenges.
My training approach is 100% practical. I reverse engineer the most common challenges I hear in 1:1 coaching conversations into relevant training agendas that invite participants to prepare for the challenges they are the most likely to face. This is the difference that helps them starting hitting the ground running and contributing value to the team and wider organization.
